As fall returns to Minnesota, our thoughts naturally turn back to school. We at Neighbors United will be working this fall to preserve our tradition of excellence in the Mounds View district as we share information about the upcoming November 2nd operating levy election.
Unfortunately, state funding for schools remains flat. For the third year in a row, despite increasing inflationary costs, the Legislature has not increased funding for our students. In 2003, voters approved an operating levy request that annually generates approximately $6 million in revenue for our schools. It expires in 2011. This funding is used now to help maintain class sizes, class and program offerings and co- curricular activities like band, orchestra and sports.
The levy request on November 2nd is NOT for increased funding. Residents will not be asked to pay additional property taxes. If approved, it simply maintains the current level of voter-approved levy funding.
Our communities take pride in academic excellence, and our schools reflect that pride. Neighbors United is working to protect the excellence of Mounds View Public Schools by providing honest and truthful information to voters throughout the campaign, and asking voters to approve the operating levy by voting yes.
